Overview

The Infamy System in Sea of Conquest is the central reputation mechanic governing PvP actions on the sea map. It tracks the extent to which a player sinks merchant vessels, attacks other players, or engages in acts of piracy that disrupt the peaceful economy of the game world. The more Infamy points a player accumulates, the more severe the consequences — up to and including a public Warrant (bounty) and placement on the server's Wanted List. The system is designed to create a dynamic tension between aggressive piracy and cautious restraint, rather than to prohibit PvP outright.

Details

What Is Infamy?

Infamy is displayed as a small red skull icon with a number at the top of the screen. Tapping the icon opens the Infamy menu, where the current level, associated consequences, and active Warrants on other players can be reviewed.

Infamy points are earned through the following actions:

  • Sinking NPC Merchant Ships
  • Attacking and sinking player-controlled ships
  • Looting the cargo of other players

Each action increases the Infamy score by a specific number of points. Before attacking a Merchant Ship, tapping on it reveals an information panel that shows exactly how many Infamy points the attack will add.

Infamy Levels and Their Consequences

The game distinguishes multiple Infamy thresholds. The most notable and consequential is Butcher o' the Seas, reached at 1,000 Infamy points.

Infamy Tier Threshold (approx.) Consequences
Low 1–499 Minor bounty; other players may attack
Mid 500–999 Higher bounty; location revealed more frequently
Butcher o' the Seas 1,000+ Added to Wanted List; location permanently visible; maximum bounty
Maximum Highest tier No resources gained from attacking other ships

At the maximum Infamy level, the player receives no resources from attacking other ships — a strong deterrent against unchecked piracy.

The Wanted List and Bounties

Players on the Wanted List (reached at the Butcher tier or above) are trackable by any other player on the map at any time. Through the Infamy menu (red skull icon → “View Warrant”), any player can browse active Warrants on the server, view a target's current location, and receive a Gold reward via mail after sinking the wanted player.

Players carrying an active Warrant are considered fair targets — regardless of whether an Alliance or Truce is in effect between gangs.

Reducing Infamy: Heart of Atonement

Infamy decreases automatically at the daily server reset at 02:00 UTC. Players who want to reduce their Infamy faster can purchase Hearts of Atonement from the Dock Merchant in exchange for Emeralds. Three variants are available, each removing a different number of Infamy points:

Item Infamy Reduction Cost Daily Purchase Limit
Heart of Atonement – Primary Small amount Emeralds (80% discount) 1× per day
Heart of Atonement – Standard Moderate amount Emeralds 1× per day
Heart of Atonement – Large High amount Emeralds (higher cost) 1× per day

It is strongly recommended to purchase the heavily discounted Primary Heart of Atonement every day, even when not immediately needed, to build up a stockpile for emergencies.

Gang Diplomacy: Ceasefire and Slaughter Treaties

Introduced in version 1.1.230, the Gang Diplomacy system allows gangs to establish formal agreements:

  • Ceasefire Treaty: Both gangs must agree. While active, neither side can attack the other gang's members.
  • Slaughter Treaty: Can be initiated unilaterally by one gang. During its term, killing members of the opposing gang does not raise the attacker's Infamy. In the current version, no items drop from these kills.

Infamy and Merchant Ships

Attacking Merchant Ships is an efficient source of cooking and brewing ingredients but simultaneously raises Infamy and reduces Guild Relations with the guild the targeted ship belongs to. Higher Guild Relations unlock access to better-quality trade goods at affiliated ports — making aggressive piracy a long-term strategic disadvantage if maintained consistently.

Tips

  • Check Infamy cost before attacking: Tap a Merchant Ship before engaging. The info panel shows exactly how many Infamy points the attack will add — use this to decide whether the loot is worth the reputation cost.
  • Buy the Primary Heart of Atonement daily: The discounted Heart at the Dock Merchant should be purchased every day, even if you do not need it immediately. Build a stockpile before your Infamy spikes.
  • Pause Auto-Trading when on the Wanted List: Being on the Wanted List means your location is permanently visible. Running automatic trade routes under these conditions exposes your ship to ambushes. Reduce Infamy first.
  • Use Gang Diplomacy strategically: Initiate Slaughter Treaties against rival gangs to fight them without Infamy risk. For allied or neutral gangs, Ceasefire Treaties prevent accidental aggression.
  • Hunt high-Infamy players actively: Use the Warrant menu regularly. Wanted players are shown on the map and yield a Gold reward upon being sunk — a reliable secondary income stream.
  • Peaceful play strategy: Players who prefer the trader or builder role should avoid all attacks on Merchant Ships and players entirely. Keeping Infamy at zero ensures you never appear on the Wanted List.
  • Protect Guild Relations: Consider carefully which guilds you antagonize through piracy. Higher Guild Relations provide access to better trade goods — a significant long-term economic advantage.
